Default Air Filter sucked dry

Hello Everyone,

Kind of at a loss here...I have an 05 RK Classic EFI. Two years ago I put 07 heads on, a larger exhaust, and a Big Sucker air cleaner. No troubles. Last fall the cam tensioner was upgraded but wasn't able to ride much. Now I am riding everyday and noticed that the air cleaner getting white after a couple hundred miles. Thinking the Big Sucker filter might be a little inferior, I replaced it with a K&N filter. Same thing is happening. I think its a little strange to have to recharge the filter every couple hundred miles. Any thoughts?

Just thought of this...When I did the head conversion I used an 07 gasket kit. The cam tensioner work was done by a shop and maybe they used an 05 gasket kit. Would that make a difference?

Thanks!

My Fat Bob does the same thing with a DK Customs high flow filter. I only have about 700 miles on the filter.

The red is not the oil, it's just a dye that shows you where the oil has been applied. You can apply a little more, but you don't want to have it dripping.

K&N told me when I asked about this that the color fades and re-oiling is not necessary til next service.

K&N tells you that the red tint may dissipate and the filter is still ok for up to several thousand miles depending on the conditions you may ride in. Google it, you'll find info on this.

Thus the use of the word "sparingly" in my post.
