Default 96" build with Marelli EFI

Has anyone had good results with a decent build using the M&M EFI? I have a 2001 FLHTC and it runs great. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a big bore, headwork, and gear cams. The bike has duals and a open A/C with pc3. Runs really well, but just not enough go when running with the 103 crowd. I'm not looking to drag race, but it would be nice to hit the throttle and keep up a little.

I've seen a lot of carb switch articles, but this doesn't really interest me. If I can get some good results with the M&M I'll be happy. So does anyone have any successful builds with the M&M? If you've got numbers please share them!

I have a 2001 Electra Glide Classic. When I bought it, it had the MM injection, Harley programmable ECU (S&S VFI), S&S 510 gear driven cams, 96" bore with Wiseco pistons (unknown compression), and stock heads. It would keep up with and even outrun my buddy's stock 103. Last November I rebuilt it with S&S 97" jugs and pistons, S&S 89cc Super Stock heads, 1.725 rockers on intake-stock ratio on exhaust, & an S&S 52mm single bore throttle body. I spent a couple of months trying to tune it myself, then took it to Wolfgang Grasser in Baytown and put it on his dyno. He and I spent the better part of a day tuning, and finished up with 105 HP and 109 ft/lbs of torque.

we`ve done a fair amount of big bore,MM builds,even a 124" (mild 124"`s,not my idea,but it worked out OK,123/134),on 98" milder builds it`ll work OK.

124 with a MM? That gives me a little more faith in the MM system. I've heard a lot of horror stories about it, but I've (thank god) have had no problems thus far. I'm hoping that the mm will be adequate for my build but if you've had no problems with a 124 then a 96" ported bb should be no problem.

Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity why did you change to the 52mm throttle body? Did the MM not work for the other work done on your build?

It was working, but I was having trouble tuning it. It had always had a problem with backfiring when you let off of the throttle, as well as trouble idling. I was also looking at the long term, HD support for the MM is disappearing fast. I wanted to find an improvement to the MM bikes that didn't involve changing to a carb.

Stick with the MM. It has its little quirks, but once set right leave it alone..... I've been tinkering with mine getting it to run right. Just a suggestion, if it hasn't been done yet look at changing your fuel lines to the goodridge lines. My factory lines (not rebuildable but the goodridge ones are), were driving me crazy, leak one minute, then wouldn't have any issues for a month, then dump a gallon of gas everywhere, then wont leak for another month...... Best $150 I have spent on the bike. Fuel leaks will drive that MM crazy.

Mine is an EVO, and when it is tired I want to build a 89" for it. Keep us posted on how it works out!
