Default Can I get these cams and upgrade parts to work together???

Hey guys. Bought a buncha parts that I thought would work together, but I'm starting to have my doubts.
Bike: 2001 FXDX TC88
SE cam chain tensioner upgrade kit (hydraulic)
Andrews 26N cams
Amazon.com: Andrews 26N Conversion Camshafts 216826: Automotive Amazon.com: Andrews 26N Conversion Camshafts 216826: Automotive

Feuling lifters (don't have the model # in front of me)

I wanted to replace the cam chain tensioner system, and while I was in there, give myself a bit of jump.
With the list above, I thought all I'd need is the inner, roller style cam chain.
I was wondering if I'd need to replace the outer chain with the narrower, roller style as well, or if I could keep the wider chain.
(I know if I do need to replace the outer chain, I also have to replace the sprockets with the one with the ignition trigger.)
I called Andrews for answers, and maybe I didn't explain myself properly, but their tech guy said that the abovementioned parts would not work.

Any advice/list of parts required would be a big help.
Please and thanks.

Those 26N conversion cams don't work with the SE conversion cam plate. You need to get some TC88-style TW26 cams and use the link type inner chain or get the 2007 and up cam plate to use with the 26N style conversion cams. See Andrews products website and catalog...

Okay, but I thought the SE plate was essentially the same as the 2007 plate...?
I guess not.

Thanks for the reply.
Now I just have to figure out what'll be cheaper: cams, or the plate, new chains etc.

So if I buy this

Can I attach the hydraulic tensioners from the SE kit?
And then all I'll need is the roller chains right?

That's the correct cam plate for the 26N (conversion cams). Tensioners should fit, you will need the rear chain and pulleys. Not sure about the front chain (S/E) I think it's a roller chain. If it has the same p/n as the 07 up chain you should be OK.

Default Which part # do you have?

It appears that there are a couple of SE upgrade kits available. Which one do you have?

This thread may help…

I have the 25284-08 plate.

I've just been reading some info from other posts and google and maybe I'm tired but my head is swimming.

So now, besides being frustrated at having to buy more parts than expected, I'm trying to figure out what's gonna cost (and hurt) less:
- buying another set of cams to fit the 25284-08 cam plate
or
- buying a 25358-06A (07+) cam plate
Which seems like the cheaper option, but leaves me wondering:
can I still use my outer (wider, stock 2001) cam sprocket chain and sprockets
(Will they fit? Will they adversely affect hydraulic performance?)
or will I need to replace those sprockets and chain for a thinner roller chain?
and will the oil pump from my 25284-08 kit fit and work?

Those cams are $400+ up here in Canada.

Your cheaper option may well be to get the ebay plate, roller chains and gears and sell what you don't use from the kit. I paid $700 Canadian for the 25284-11 locally.

If you decide to go with the silent outer chain setup you will need a sprocket with a splined drive and cam position sensor. I have one surplus to my needs, PM me your address and I will mail it to you. That being said, you already have the roller-style cams, it makes more sense to me to run roller chains throughout.

Good luck whichever way you go!
