Milwaukee 8 problems
#61
I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2017 Road Glide, the suspension is fantastic, the new engine and clutch crisp, the set up amazing. So I read this thread, searching for any gremlins in the first generation Milwaukee 8, and though, hmmm, oil leak. My buddy came over, and I got under his 2017 Road King and he asked, what are you doing? I swiped the bottom of the oil case, fresh oil leaking, rubbed my fingers together, showing him. I just got the oil changed, 1,000 mile service, he says. Maybe they were sloppy putting the oil back in. So I'm like, BEFORE I buy, does it makes sense to purchase a compromised product if the compromise is a small one? Or is it a small one?

I guess it all comes down to letting go of $20,000 plus to be a beta tester. I think the design is masterful, so balanced, that the issues are limited to manufacturing snafu's that will work themselves out with time. But this combined with half of me loving the RG suspension and the other half thinking, "Congrats Harley, you just made your first smooth, souless Japanese motorcycle" the whole thing just makes me scratch my head. Maybe I'll wait......

Beta testing
i was a beta tester back in 2007 for a GMC Acadia my wife had to have and wouldnt settle for anything else.. After being stranded, with her 8 months pregnant, in Bumper to bumper traffic for hours in the summer, i said never again. We got fixed up but the memory will be with me. We were in a bridal party and were on our way to the wedding 3 hours away. We made it! But boy was i sweating and nervous. Thank you for being a tester.
I've had 2 more acadia's without any issues since, and she now has a 2016 acadia Denali that has been without any issues whatsoever after the first year of ownership.
I've learned my lesson

How many miles did he have on it when it failed?

I ran in to the same issue with my 2017 Street Glide Special. The dealer has had it for a week now and just today they have decided to replace the oil pump. My bike has about 2000 miles on it, but I ride it short distances mostly, to work, to the store, to the beach about 10 miles away, so those miles have only accumulated about 6 months. I'll let you know how it worked out for me.
