Default Twin Cam 103?

Hope this is not a double post or anything. If it is please direct me to it.

But I am currently selling my bike a Moto Guzzi V7 and am in the conundrum of upgrading.

So to put the story short, you hear the stories about the TC103, and then you look the web and so on so forth.
So the question comes automatic how bad or good is the Twin Cam engine 103.

Is there a certain age one should be aware off, where this engine is worse.

If I understand correctly, your conundrum is upgrade your 103" model or sell/trade and purchase a replacement? This begs a couple of questions. If you sell/trade would the replacement be a 2017 model with the Milwaukee 8 motor or a twin cam model?

Nothing at all wrong with the 103" HD motor; lots of performance upgrade options for the 103", both aftermarket and the new 110" kits from HD. Really, no one on this forum can resolve your conundrum but unless you are considering replacing your current TC with the new M8 motor, why replace one TC with another?

There are NO real inherent problems with the Twin Cam engine of any vintage. They're as reliable as any.

I currently have a Moto Guzzi V7 Racer which I am selling.

My interest is revolving around used 2013 or newer Harley 1200 Sportster or Dyna's and Victory cruiser bikes.
Currently my eyes are set on a 2014 Dyna Street Bob with the Twin Cam 103 engine.
Now you read some bad stories about the TC103,

Will edit post so it is better understood.

Don't bother posting internet crap about "bad stories" about the TC103. The TC motor has not had any major changes since introduction in '99. There have been some quality issues associated with various iterations of the TC motor since then but basically those have led to improvements. So, the TC 103 is an improved big brother to the original TC88. Certainly has been around longer than the Victory motor.

You can find "bad stories" on the internet about any motorcycle; someone always has an axe to grind so don't believe them. Go on the Dyna section of this forum and see what actual owners have to say about their bikes. If you want a '14 Street Bob, get one; a good choice and nice bike.

My 96's that i have owned were bullet proof as my 103 has been. Never had a motor issue. Compensators... have been hit and miss. A lot of guys have high milage motors with no issues.

I think the bulk of the horror stories come from crank issues found in the 04-07 models. They aren't real common but those are the years most problematic. I've also heard of several head and cam issues with some of the 110 engines. Most problems stem from motor upgrades with aftermarket parts. For the most part the 103 is a good motor with many upgrades and accessories available. The 2014 and newer 103ho has different cams and is a good performing factory motor.

I don't understand buying a motorcycle and then throwing a bunch of money at it right away. There are a lot more bikes (used Harleys & other brands new&used) that have more power for less money.

If reliability is a factor, buy new and use the warranty when things go wrong or buy a used bike that doesn't have a history of issues (make and model).

I'm digging the 103" HO on my 2016 Low Rider. Much better than any of the jap cruisers I've previously owned.
