Default Melling JB-2079

Picked up a set of Melling JB-2079 lifters today from Autozone (cost me $10 ea) for my 2010 FLHX. Can someone confirm what depth I should I preload these lifters? Will .120-.140 work for these?

I did do a little research on these when first posted and in another forum I found that because they are typically a small block Chevy lifter the oil port is only .077"as compared to HD and S&S that are a lot bigger because the differences in oil pressures. I can measure my HD and s&s lifters tonight and let you know if you want...

Harley lifters have about 0.200" of total travel...so 0.120"-0.140" is fairly typical. If the Melling lifters have similar travel specs you will be fine.

You can measure the lifter travel before installing if you like, or you can verify the distance (or amount of turns) from zero play to bottomed out if in doubt. Make sure the lifter fully bleeds down if you chose this method.

i knew the oil hole was a bit smaller on the melling lifter but i had planned on swapping out the cups from my stock lifters to the SBC lifters to make up the difference.

Not all lifters are the same. I know that the cups between my HD and S&S lifters are a totally different design. Let alone the difference in the bores...

I'm sure you're right, but the melling and stock lifter cups are the same minus the oil hole size.

Installed the Melling lifters yesterday after swapping the cups over from my stock lifters. Seated the push rods at .125. This motor has never been this quiet! Pretty impressed with these $10 lifters.
