2000 fxdx upgrade q's due to bad crank
Hi all, have been reading many threads relating to parts of my situation, as follows:
Last august i bought a 2000 fxdx w VH longshots, unknown cam installed, stock air cleaner (wtf?) and 39k miles. Month or so later noise and engine check light on/off CPS sensor codes. Was thinking cam chains but no such luck, compensator no, BAD ROD YES.
Saved over winter and spring while going back n forth deciding bore cases while theyr apart for how much big inch, or not, etc etc.
I like reliability and 88 is making me feel better than my last 80 anyway, and wanted to get in the wind, so went with stock crank, have one now remanned by Revolution Performance w good spec sheet. But now much later & thats as far as i've gone so far (work long nites, budget issues for overall plan, etc slowed my decisions on parts orders.)
The "get it back on road" thinking was:
Stock crank use the 88 jugs pistons, flow the stock heads a bit, bump compression up somewhat, air cleaner, do the cam chain tensioner upgrade w cams- which cam i dont know yet- my builder tuner adviser n wrench pal suggests woods 777, but i like lower torque, sometimes a passenger, and still making build decisions so haven't ordered yet.
Possible other changes: Now if find a prob w existing jugs pistons then bore jugs or maybe buy s&s 97"?
Also maybe find a deal on the '06 later heads?
Cam chains or gears?
Like the reliability idea of gears (i'm a high mileage type) but I would really hate the gear noise i've heard on other bikes. But 'new' crank w low runout etc so maybe not so loud... but how reliable gears if any other crank issues? Tho i guess point would be moot in that event lol.
Chain upgrade- since it's an '00 i'm having trouble figuring out which parts (looking at Andrews site hd parts list etc) to order vs the newer SE kit w higher pump about the same price as the separate parts, but seems either way would still have one old style chain anyway?
I see this post is pretty dam long; thanks if you got this far. Maybe i should've made a few threads-but i cant see which forest for all the different trees.
Any experience thoughts opinions appreciated.

Thanks for the input, I'll probably only go to 95 bc reliability is a main concern for me. Can probably get a decent price on later heads too. May wait until winter though depending on how it looks, money and esp time to bore etc, i'm itching to get back on it.
I was thinking maybe 26 cams tho, but still debating how much i'll want freeway torque if i go that low.

S&S .570 @ 10.0 with our Stage II Heads, 98" will go 100/105.
Nothing wild, just a nice tame combo.
