Hi everyone. While putting new pipes on my 2007 streetbob, I broke the stud in the head. Needless to say, that ruined my day. Anyway, does anyone know of a machine shop in Chicago / west suburbs area that can drill out the stud and put in a new one? I will pull the heads myself but don't feel confident to drill out the stud. Thanks for all of the tips on the forum.

 

I don't know of any machine shops local to you. However, George's Garage sells a drilling fixture for the exhaust studs. It fits over one stud and into the exhaust port to align it with the broken stud and helps guide the drill straight. I haven't used it myself but if you can get the broken stud ground or filed flat and accurately center punched (perhaps with the assistance of the drilling gixture and a transfer punch) you could drill it at home without too much difficulty.

If this doesn't appeal to you, maybe give Drago's Bike Works a call. I'm pretty sure he's in IL, so if you had to ship your head it wouldn't cost overly much.
