Why not? As long as the speedo drive stays the same, you should be just fine. And your speedo drive is off the right side of the front wheel, right? So nothing changes there.

If you load the bike heavily, like with a passenger and baggage, you my find the cruise-control worthless in 6th. as you'll be down-shifting up those long hills.....depending on where you ride and of course, depending on the 6th. gear ratio. That's going to be asking a lot from a box-stock EVO in a bagger......if that's what you have. Been there and done that....did not get a t-shirt and you'll not gain a great deal of anything by adding the 6-speed. It was a day of true joy when I pulled mine out and reinstalled my trusty old 5-speed. BUT....yes, the cruise control will still work.

I don't understand this mentality...just because you have a 6 speed, you don't have to shift to sixth and leave it there. If you are in the mountains and your bike won't pull up the hill in 6th, you downshift to the gear that is appropriate for the terrain you are on...that's why they put the shifter on the bike. If you are in the flatlands, and want to cruise at higher speeds, you put it in 6th and enjoy the ride with less vibration. 6 speeds rock

That's why I said "depending on where you ride". I'd advise purchasing a good one if one wants to go that route. There is some real 6-speed junk out there. I can only say that I've (as well as others I know) had the 6-speed experience and the cost by-far never came close to outweighing any perceived savings or comfort. That's just my experience and usually when somebody post a thread seeking opinions...that's what they get. Just opinions.

Default Load

Going to a six speed can be a nice upgrade if you have the proper gear ratio and power to use it. It can be a load to a bone stock ride..

We have a six speed in a 70" shovel and it pulls it no problem. Just pay attention to your RPM's and it will be fine. Keep it above 2600 and you and the bike will be happy.

If you do the math, a stock motor is only is only putting out about 18 HP to go 70 mph on flat ground with the stock 5 speed...plenty of headroom for a 6.

We have customers putting our 6into4 behind Knuckles and Pans and enjoying the crap out of them. The rider just has to understand the right time and place to use 6th gear. Just because you have 6 does not mean you always have to be in 6th. It's really a comfort thing and sometimes you want a smooth ride and some times you like the feeling of redlining it. I know I do, sometimes the idea of a rod coming through the gas tank is exciting.
