Sounds like you either need a new float or need to set the float. Even the slightest amount of being off will give you trouble. One way it'll flood, the other way it'll stall on hard acceleration. Check the OEM service manual and adjust it as perfectly as possible. A micrometer can help.

Sometimes the worn rubber from the float valve sticks in the valve's seat and holds the new valve open. Using Q-tips and a metal cleaner like Brasso you can polish the seat to clean away debris and allow for it to seal properly.

A micrometer won't help you with ****, but a dial caliper will.

OK crumbling fuel line was a part of it. I thought you meant it was still giving you issues. Guess you figured it and it's fixed.

And yes I meant a dial caliper.

Sheesh, guess I need to wake up with another cup of coffee.

Use some low permeation Tygon fuel line and this crap ethanol fuel won't eat up your lines. It's even seafoam safe.
