+1 on this. The hole in your main jet is only 1.8mm diameter, or less. That is .070", or just slightly over 1/16". No point in having an expensive, high-flow petcock with a 1/4" inch hole through it to feed a 1/16" jet.
You might try also tightening the four screws on the petcock that hold the vacuum diaphragm in place, They tend to come loose and leak. Even better, yank the diaphragm altogehter and blank it off.
And the reason the stock petcock does not vibrate shut is that it has the traditional design with the operating lever hanging downwards in the "on" position. So any vibration tends to move the tap to the on position.
If you have the Pingel with the horizontally moving lever, it does not have this safeguard built in.

I have only heard of 1 Pingel going bad.
The Pingel is far easier to operate with heavy gloves on.
All in all the Pingel is way better than the stock petcock.

My local Indy keeps very little inventory so I didn't bother calling him. I was put off by the ridiculous prices on the pingels. I called the dealer and they had three in stock so I picked one up on my lunch break. I opened the box in my office and this appears to be a large vacuum type. I don't think that is what is on my bike. I'll see when I get home tonight. The price was one third of the pingles by the way. I figured if the original lasted 20 years, then another one just like it should be good enough.
The part number on this box is 61338-94D

I got it changed. My original one was in fact vacuum operated but this one just looked a bit different. There was a note in the box about a redesign.
There was quite a bit of grit in the old screen, so the next time I take bike down for any length of time, I am going to see about getting the tank cleaned.
There was a burr or something on the new nut that prevented it from screwing on enough, so I reused the old nut. I didn't see any reason not to.
The new petcock is bigger and chrome plated. It also makes a clicking noise when it reaches each of the three positions.
I refilled the tank and started it up. It runs fine. While it was running I shut off the valve and waited for it to die to verify that it is in fact closing and working like it should.
I want to take it for a ride tonight, but I am on call, so I will have to wait until tomorrow.
I didn't have a 1" wrench so I had to stop by O'Reilly's to buy one.
