Default 96 fxd

I would like a wider rear tire on my fxd and am wondering if there is a kit that is made just for that and where to look for it. I appreciate any info available.

It's very expensive and note you'll need to convert to a 1 1/8" belt too. You might be able to get a 150 in there with some work.

Harley sold a kit a bunch of years ago that would convert your bike to a 1-1/8" belt which will allow for a 150 tire. I did this conversion a couple of years ago on my 97 Wide Glide. Have your dealership do a search for the kit it includes a new rear pulley, drive belt and gaskets.

PS u will need to remove inner primary to change to narrow belt.

Default More rear tire

I replaced my rear drive belt with a gates poly chain 1" from BDL and a new rear pulley 70 tooth Change the ratio to a 3.31:1 follow this link you can call them and they will help you. With the purchase of certain 1" pulley's they also include the belt but you have to measure output shaft of trans to rear axle to get an accurate tooth count of size of the belt neccessary. They have a chart to match belts to measurements as long as you know front and rear pulley sizes like 32 front and 65 rear (stock). With changing the pulley to a 1" width you will have to purchase the spacer but don't worry it will handle 100 lbs of torque. Tried and tested by me. I spent a little over $400.00 for belt pulley and spacer kit. it allowed me toinstall a new metzler 150/80-16 and still have approx 3/8" gap from belt to tire. Hell might even get a 160 in there. Keep in mind you will have to remove the primary drive. It's not a bad job. heres the link. Good luck.

The limitations on installing a wider tyre are belt/tyre clearance and fender internal width. A 150 will comfortably fit inside the fender, a 160 will not without surgery. As the others have pointed out to get a in 150 requires narrower belt, but you can squeeze in a 140/85 or 140/90 in with no mods except to the belt guard.
