91 ULTRA REBUILD. REFIT MOTOR or TRANNY FIRST.??

Default 91 ULTRA REBUILD. REFIT MOTOR or TRANNY FIRST.??

Im ready to refit the Motor & Tranny into the newly painted frame of my 91 Ultra.
What is best way to approach this...ie. Tranny or Motor first.
Any other info. re problems I might encounter will be much appreciated.

Transmission first, get the swingarm and everything in first while you have room and can easily move it around.. The engine will mount to the top of the trans.

You have to do the trans first to have somewhere to set the motor.

bolt primairy to motor and trans before tightening motor to trans bolts.

Yep. Just use a ratchet strap over the frame and under the trans case to support it.

Another couple of questions.. is it ok to attach large FRONT engine/motor Mounting Plate (shaped 3 hole) to engine before attempting to fit Motor into frame. Also,has the FRONT Mounting Bracket Bolt(on frame) only got 1 Very Large Washer underneath. My Manual only shows one but I seem to have 2 left after stripdown. Bugo

RonniesHarleyDavidson is a good resource of info. Their drawing shows only one large washer at the front motor mount(http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....KCASE-ASSEMBLY

Yep. Bolt it to the motor, then drop it in place
