Default Well I did it, got me an EVO

I found a 99 Softail Custom.

I know I know, pcitures. Well I took them, but I can get them from my phone through our firewall. Give me time to get home.

The bike has 31,000 miles, but runs great. It's all original except for the exhaust, and it's missing the owners manual.

The only issues I see right off is that it's leaking a little oil on the left side after it runs awhile. Looks like a shiftershaft leak. Is that a typical problem for Evos? If so, anyone know where I can get instructions to fix it until I can get my hands on a 99 evo maintanence manual?

Pretty excited, I've owned a lot of Harleys, but this is my Evo and softail.

Could be shifter shaft, or pulley seal... replaced everything on mine except I believe the pulley seal and guess what, the bitch still leaks; it's not going to hurt anything though. Keep an eye on the trans oil level and ride the **** out of it.

..... or it could be as simple as the primary cover gasket.

Well it's getting pretty cold now, so I have some time on my hands. Might as well dig in I guess.

there's one more seal...between the main gear and the mainshaft. Kind of a buggerbear to get this one replaced

Whenever you see a post about someone who has replaced all the seals on the transmission, and it still leaks, they have probably overlooked this seal.

beary: you really should have the service manual on hand before you tackle this job. You will be removing the primary drive system.

Also, take a look at the shift lever at the transmission, make sure it is tight on that shaft.

Sea,

That high gear seal is the one that didn't get replaced on Tma'ams bike.

Time was not on our side when it went up on the lift so it's the only one that wasn't replaced.

I agree, does Harley still sell them?

Are they a specific year back then or more of "EVO from 19** to 1999".

Since we are on manuals, where can I get an owners manual for the 99 custom? Easy or hard to find?

Funny, all of a sudden I'm thinking chrome for Christmas.

Harley service manual `99 Softail HD P/N: 99482-99

Forget chrome...

Chrome don`t get ya home.

What you really need for Christmas is a genuine Handy Table Lift.

I bought both the owners and workshop manual from my local dealer both shipped from the US to Australia less than two weeks and about $180
