My indie guy and the dealership told me to not run synthetic oils in an EVO. I haven't. Can suck on a long road trip because an oil change may need to happen out on the road.

Been there and done that. I switched back to non synthetic and the problem went away.

Good question! I haven't looked recently, having ample stocks at present. If you have the time and patience there is a Tech Oils section where you can browse the zillion oils owners use, trying to avoid the scurrilous MoCo and its products!

I'm not a proud person and enjoy learning new things, but I have never heard of Formula+ being a synthetic oil, nor can I find anything on the bottle or from Harley saying it is synthetic. Not saying you are wrong, I would just like to learn where you got that information.

formula+ is 50wt oil. Not synthetic at all. Here's an analysis done somewhere else. Redline makes a specific lil for evos non synthetic one for the primary and one for the gearbox.

Harley-Davidson Formula + ( Virgin oil analysis* Blackstone Labs)

B 210
Zn - none
No other elemental additives.
Viscosity - within SAE 50 range.
Listed as a GL-1, does test out as a GL-3.

Published specs:
Specific Gravity: 0.857
Pounds per Gallon: 7.14
Viscosity, ASTM D 445,
cSt at 40°C: 168.04
cSt at 100°C: 20.10
Viscosity Index, ASTM D 2270: 139
Brookfield Viscosity, ASTM D 2983,
cP at -26°C - 28,800
cP at -40°C - n/m
Pour Point, ASTM D 97, °F (°C): -60 (-51)
