Putting on dual disk
#71
Maybe you can answer a question for me. I have a 96 Fatboy (stock rims) and the previous owner added dual disk breaks. Im looking a puting a 40 spoke rim on the front, will I have any problem keeping the dual disk's?

The preferred method of adding a second disk is to change out the triple trees.
You say you have stock wheels but I don't know of a Fatboy that had dual discs stock.
Do you have stock wheels for a bagger?
If you do then get a 40 spoke wheel for a bagger.
Pics might help.

It depends on what he did to get the dual discs on there.

Besides you're new here so I'll let you in on a secret.
Hijacking is a way of life here in EVO land once the problem has been solved.
AS for pics an easier way to tell if you have a bagger front wheel is to measure the distance between the rotors.
A stock bagger wheel measures 6 5/16" between the rotors.

Don't worry about it man I don't consider your question a hijack.

I do know the softail wheel is narrower than a bagger wheel.
The measurement I gave you was from inside surface of the rotor to inside surface.
I think the 6 5/8" sounds like outside to outside.
I will double check that.

I'm willing to bet the PO changed the trees.

Close enough to your measurement that I firmly believe that you have a bagger wheel on there.
All you have to do now is get the wheel of your choice but make sure it would fit a bagger not a softail.

I don't either but I do know softail wheels are narrower than bagger wheels by a significant amount.
I don't remember what exactly but when I changed front wheels there was a marked difference in the width.
