Hi guys,
Just a heads up, AutoZone has Valvoline Synthetic 20W-50 4T 4-Stroke motor oil on sale right now for $3 a quart.
Online or in-store.

If it was VR1 for 3 bucks, then you'd want to blow him and drink his beer.

Age and NON-mileage. A well maintained bike that is ridden EVERYDAY and allowed to get warmed up completely each time, shouldn't leak.. at least not for a long time. All bikes will eventually leak after high mileage if well maintained. A bike with 50 miles on it that has sat for 10 years will be leaking before it gets a grand on it, and I'll bet money on it.

I did read the manual, for my 95 softail it says use HD part # xyz12789343 or some damn thing, seein as how my local dealer is likes to quote me prices higher than msrp on parts I try really hard to refuse to deal with him and it's tough to find hd oil at my auto parts store.
Just so I'm clear here my choices for the primary are: type F atf the same 20-50 weight dino oil I put in the motor, hd's brand or ????
Thanks guys I've been stalling on this cuz I didn't know what to use but I wanna get er done this week

hey not all of us grew up on harleys but that doesn't mean we can't wrench. It just might mean we need some advice or have some questions on them considering they're a little different from the smallblock chevy's i grew up wrenching.

I have another thread going specifically on primary and trans. Consensus was to use either HD trans/primary fluid or any decent ATF auto trans fluid. Do NOT use TypeF ATF fluid in primary. 80w-90 gear oil in transmission and 20w-50 in motor. Valvoline was the majority brand of choice. Good luck!

Nothing wrong with type F... Its only going to give you a more aggressive grab on the clutch... Try it and see if you like it, if not, go with dexron.
Said it once, I'll say it again.
Valvoline VR1 50w in summer, 20w-50 VR1 in the winter.
Valvoline 80w-90 hypoid in trans year around.
Shell Rotella T or type F ATF in primary depending on how I feel.
With a properly adjusted clutch she snicks right into neutral with no fuss on this set up.
