I'm almost positive you can.
I think the only difference is how they connect to the switch housing on your handlebar. That changed in '96 or '97 not sure which.

That makes sense to me now!

How much did you have to peel off?

Probably had to peel off enough so there was enough excess cable to get on the throttle and onto the carb spring mount. If you take too much you have to make bigger adjustment up at the handlebar throttle adjustment.

If those old cables are as well maintained as the carburetor was, leave them connected to the carburetor and scrap the whole lot.

So I have them connected, but I have no return on the throttle. Everything is adjusted as it says to, but no luck.

Make sure you didn't accidentally tighten up your throttle lock.

EDIT: You should be fine with the CV. Disregard my post below (although it is noteworthy). That was from a different members install.

When I first ordered extended cables for mine (added taller bars), the cables I received had too much free play and I could not adjust it out. Because the cables required for an S&S carb have a shorter free play length in the cable. Your stock cables will not work with an S&S SuperE.

I don't know why you had problems with yours but my stock cables worked just fine when I switched from the CV to a S&S Super E.
