Specifically this is on my twincam dyna but this applies to evo dynas as well. When your mounts get worn out an you get excessive vibration (in my case my front exhaust pipe is waaaay to close to the downtube) it's time to replace them

Yep, that's pretty bad. Just finished replacing mine, today & installing a True-Track system. Have little over 40,000 on her . Front was about shot but rear was still in good shape. Replaced it anyway because of age. Almost lost control of bike, last Fall so decided to replace mounts & add the True-Track. I'll post up how it works out.

Harold

That's not worn, it's been gone.

I'm aware but wasn't sure where the rubber is usually found on the mounts. Also,I couldn't find a pic of a good one installed for comparison to the bad one in the pic above

I have a 98 superglide and my motor does shake a little should I be concerned ? The front looks good no peeling of the mount but the back is hard to check. What do you suggest in how to check the back? Thanks

Rubber mounted V-Twins will oscillate. They're designed that way.

Two ways you will know:
Excessive vibration
Going into a sweeping right or left hand curve at a fast rate of speed & bike gets squirrelly, unable to control, tank slappers.

Best way is take it off & inspect it. FSM says check em every 2500miles & is a good idea. If you have a table lift & a scissor jack, its a piece of cake. If not, its a pain in the ***. Let them get too bad & the end result is not pretty. Just replaced mine on a Lowrider with 43,000 miles . Front was junk but rear still looked usable but I replaced anyway. My old *** is worth more , (to me,) than the cost of a motor mount. Its called Preventative Maintenance. Not being a smart-***, but bad motor mounts WILL kill you!
I know first hand. Almost done me in , last fall.

Ride Safe,
Harold

The azz end of my dyna would vibrate at low speed. When pulling out of my neighborhood at low gear/low speed I would look at my rear fender mounted rack and license plate bracket and the whole fender (and everything mounted to it) would shake.

I replaced front and rear, but like others, the rear looked fine. That shaking at the rear disappeared after changing both mounts.

Also, try to keep the motor oil off the front mount when doing an oil change. I don't think the oil bath at every oil change does the rubber any good long term.

They are pretty easy to change, and the manual tells you how to align and get the engine to settle in after the change. I used two of these (below) during alignment. One on the front rotor and one on the rear. YD
