i have space between my primary cover and case

Default i have space between my primary cover and case

89 fltc.....just replacing the primary cover gasket.....put the cover back on and I have a space by the passenger footpeg between the case and cover! its flush all the way around except that spot like its a casting flaw...am I nuts? is this alright? I didn't notice if it was there when I took the cover off....anyone else have this?

loosen the bolts and refit the case to the guide dowels then lightly tighten the bolt before torquing it together

Are you saying there is a gap between the outer and inner primary or between the inner primary and the transmission case?


If it is between the outer and inner primary your alignment dowel probably isn't right.
If it is between the inner primary and transmission case there is supposed to be a gap to allow your drive belt room.


As mentioned above a picture would help.

its the cover that covers the clutch and primary chain..........ill get a pic tomorrow...everything is lined up right...I even had a second pair of eyes check it out and put a straight edge on it.....

You shouldn't have to on a primary. The only thing you guarantee by using it is that you have to replace the gasket when you pull the cover again. If you use a good gasket you can reuse it a few times.
