If there is an S&S carb under that air cleaner cover there ain't a lot that can go wrong that a good cleaning won't fix.
They are a real simple carb.

I know the bike doesn't run but does the motor turn over if you hit the start button?

Yep turns over. I gotta repaint the frame, but I kinda like working on these.

I'd lop another $500 off because you'll need to rent an enclosed trailer to get that ugly *** paint job home....

Not sure, but looks like more rake than stock?

Talked to a guy last night that was on an unmolested '93, I asked him how much, he said he gets that question every single time he takes it out, NFS.

Wow, that is seriously hard to look at. Even painted the frame purple. Mids are gone, pipes are super wrong, carb is aftermarket (by the breather),looks to have been lowered. 87 will have 35mm forks, which are OK, but not as desirable as the later 39mm. Single disk, mismatched wheels..... It's hard to tell much else, but it sure looks like a total hack job. Unless you want one hell of a project (starting with a full tear down to paint that fugly frame), I'd pass.

Now I'm getting some real expert advice. Has this frame been raked? I'm not really afraid of tearing it down, but I'd like to have a good bike when I'm done.

It does appear that the bike has been raked. Which will take away from the handling advantages of the FXR.
