Default Is an Evo capable for us?

Hi, I've just been to look at a 1997 1340 fuel injection Ultra Classic that's for sale. My last Ultra was a 1550 upgrade & we toured Europe with ease. Even the mountains of Switzerland were effortless. We're thinking of doing a similar tour soon & this bike's come up just up the road from me. It's spotless with 8k on the clock, but ive never had an Evo & as it's a private sale, little chance of a test ride. I always ride 2 up & someone told me that the bike would be too underpowered for what I want to do.
I could pay more & go newer, but the bike is so local & in mint condition. The wife fell in love with it. It's not a bargain by any means, so it's really about capabiliy. Can you offer advice?

"Someone told you" was an idiot. I've ridden 2 up over 13K ft without any problems. How high up are you planning on going?

Out on the highway, twinkies have trouble keeping up with me, not the other way around.

You should be very happy on it and I know several couples who have done lots of two up riding on theirs.

Minor upgrades can also be done for minor costs too. Newer costs more to upgrade simple things.

Easily.

I run a 1994 ultra and two up's no bother at all.

Mind you, I do have the obligatory ignition, carb, exhaust, aircleaner, cam upgrade.

You obviously feel the weight, it is a heavy thing, but it'll take you everywhere!

My advice is Harley built touring bikes for many years that were 80" or less and they did the job just fine.

For what it's worth, I asked the same question on here when I bought my 95 Heritage. Only mod on my bike is an Andrews ev-27 mild cam. My wife and I combined weight is approx. 350 lbs. Although we usually cruise the freeway 65-70mph, on occassion we've done 80mph with ease. Haven't been in the hills yet with the bike, but from what I've heard there's not much to worry about there either. But I would make sure that mileage is legitimate......seems kinda low for an Ultra.

Buy it if you want it, that is why they have a transmission on them, if the going gets hard
you can down shift. Good Luck with it.

Thank you I'm gonn buy it because we like it so m, h! Here in the UK, people don't do the kind of mileage you guys do. The mileage is verified by all the MOTs - no way the they can be wrong.
The origional owner was a multi millionaire who used a specialist dealer to import this bike as he wanted fuel injection, which wasn't an option here back then. He then rode it a bit, then stored it in a heated garage for years. When he died, his widow sold it to the current owner who again collects vehicles but doesn't ride them much. Because we have so much bad weather here & salty roads in the winter, it's easy to tell the mileage is genuine.
Thanks again, I'll post some pics when I pick it up

I run an Evo with a sidecar and three people and luggage, bone stock except for a Mikuni 40 and Supertrapp slip-ons. You will have no trouble at all.
