Default Ultima Engine Bummer

Quickly not becoming a Ultima engine fan, been running the 127" for each of the 2 past riding seasons and can't make it thru without some sort of major problems. Not a lot of saddle time this year but usually out all day when fired up, rev limiter at 5500 and WOT has only been for tuning as considered babied by my standards. Been running great, fun as heck but dammit it dropped a cylinder pulling into my drive way, compression release wouldn't pop when cranking.

Removed the head in the bike and tested all of my Hudini abilities to get it out, once out on the bench and revealed a intake valve seat had dropped 3/4 out of it's bore, good thing is it didn't grenade the engine but more dollars invested is the future.

These big engines are a blast and several have boosted Ultima's, I won't tell anyone to buy one but currently sitting on a horse in the middle of the river and gong to ride it out, weighing out my options with John Sachs and hopefully can get some more saddle time before snow hits, the old reliable 89" on the bench stands tall when I'm looking at this Ultima like a new born calf staring at a barn door

That sure isn't good news.
How about keeping that one for a hotrod and getting a good ol evo a little beefefd up for some dependable no trouble seasons.

Just my way of thinking
Hope ya get her fixed. WP

Sucks that you're having problems with the Ultima. At least you have a back up.

Starting to think like that, find a 97-98 dresser with a weak engine and put the 89" in it. I like to be different and building a Evo road glide might be cool for long distance and thump the White Bike, I sure as hell have enough parts and exhaust to build a Evo drive train. Might be this winters project if I can keep the White Bike together

Sachs is getting me in contact with Mike at Ultima, said he would be interested in this failure as research and might help with repairs

my 89 has 50,000 miles and a good friends i did has 95,000 - its for me not being the fastest but the most fun for the buck with out losing reliability
