Default 99 FLSTS Main Electrical Breaker

Anyone know where the main breaker is for a '99 FLSTS? The thing crapped out when I hit the starter... Complete electrical outage, so I know it's a breaker somewhere. Just can't seem to locate it. There are some 15A breakers under the seat, but the wiring is way too small a gage to be a main circuit. I'm guessing the main breaker would be ~30A or thereabouts.

Thanks!

Regards, Pete

Look at the terminal on the starter solenoid (where the battery cable is connected), there will be a smaller wire connected at that same terminal, follow it to the main breaker.

Hint: it`s on the front side of the rear fender extension, behind the oil tank area.

Thanks Dan! Right were you said it was. A real pig to get at with a toolbox installed! Turned out it wasn't the trouble, but I'll know where to find it if the thing ever craps out.

Did you ever find the problem?

From your first post I'd guess a bad battery is your problem.

Yeah, it sure was the battery. The thing made one loud "Click" as the starter tried to kick in, and then nothing. Absolute zero power anywhere. So like an idiot I overthought the thing and figured "Main breaker!".

The screwy thing is that I had 12 volts at the battery. I Poked around with a multimeter (Key off) after Dan pointed me at the main breaker, and the bloody thing had power through it. When I turned the key on, battery voltage would drop to nothing. I thought my multimeter was hosed up, so I changed the 9VDC battery in that. Same thing... no difference.

Then I thought "Battery!". So I pulled all the circuit breakers to check them for continuity. With the breakers out the batttery voltage came back to 12+ volts. I re-installed the 1st breaker and got Neutral and oil light, but battery voltage sagged. The 2nd breaker brought the system to its knees!...

So new battery, put it all right... Pulled the VR plug to the stator and the thing is making 6 VAC on crank, and up to 48 VAC at 2000-3000 RPM. 13.68 VDC to the battery.

ZD I now know 2 things about you.
1) You like to over complicate things.
2) You like to type.

Just kidding
Glad you got it fixed
