Default 1994 Road King headlight is like a spot light...

Hi,

I'm curious if the normal beam pattern is that of a spot light, where there is one bright spot down the road on a 94 Road king?

I took her for a spin tonight, and really didn't like the headlight. I'm curious if mine is an oddity, or is that standard equipment... It didn't light up the stripes in the road, just the center of my lane out to around a hundred feet.

Are there lens replacements that do a better job scattering light out to street signs and such... in addition to just changing bulbs?

Thanks,

Zach

If your headlight is like my oe '90 was, I couldn't tell if my lights where on when I rode with late model bikes,
Google "truck lite harley led", plenty people using them, I like them, also have the ltruck lite led passing lights.
They also draw less amps, easier on the charging system.

Zach,

there is a wide variety of lighting available at the present, with the old incandescent variety (plus plenty of different reflector units), plus HID and LED, either of which can be bought as dedicated units, such as Trucklite, also as add-ons for existing reflectors. A lot has happened in the lighting field in recent years, so at least buy a current reflector, preferably one designated with an 'E', which should give good results.

There are stacks of threads across HDF on this subject, with the Touring section worth a visit, as they are keen on such things.

Thanks Guys,

I've been searching around, and it looks like the upgrade is to LED or just E-Code headlamps.

The headlamp that is on it right now is a sylvania lens and reflector, so I'm going to give a Hella E-Code a try and see if that gives better light.

Thanks,

Zach

It didn't come with a Sylvania lens. I've got a Trucklite on my bike, plus the Trucklite spots. It's really bright. I put the HD LED on the Sporty, as that was the only one available at the time. The difference is amazing.

I ended up getting a HD factory H4 lens, which is the updated superceded part number. A lot better light on the road after that!

I installed a Truck Lite in my Road King and it was very happy with it. Here are some pics before and after:

The Trucklight from DFS seems to fit my 95 Road King very well.

High beam. Odd that the high beam is on the bottom.

Im using a regular old Bosch motorcycle H-4 in mine and it really lights up the world at night. I tried a couple of others but the Bosch is by far the best I have tried. (cheap too)

NIGHT and DAY. I kept that light when I sold the bike and I put a 7" headlamp on my heritage springer so that I could use that light. It's so nice at night.
