Starting with an S&S...
I've got some of this down.
First start of the day: Enricher on, 4 squirts, hit starter, fires right up.
Stop for gas (short stop): hit starter, half throttle, fires right up.
Here's where it's harder to start: It's a warm day, been riding a while, stop for lunch (longer stop). I haven't figured out the correct combination.
For those folks with the S&S Super E, on a warm/hot day when you've been riding and stopped for an hour, what combination do you use to start your bike? Does it start on the first try?

I have an S&S E and i never use the enricher. Cold-2 full throttle shots. Warm or hot 1 short pump. Works all the time. Not sure what you did to your motor but if you bumped up the compression and installed a high lift cam with a late closing intake, a hot soak restart for an hour will allow the lifters to pump down a little which allows the intake to close sooner thus creating more compression on a still relatively hot motor which actually requires less fuel to start ( one pump ) to many pumps will actually flood the motor. Just my experience with high compression and a good cam and an s&s e carb....

This is some good information. Bought my son a 97 Superglide with an S&S carb always made me wonder what is proper way of starting, as well as both our newer bikes are high compression and have been told that if I turned the throttle on starting that I would be adding compression which is not wanted and will only make starter have to work harder.

Myself and a few buds have this carb on our different engines, but we all use the same starting procedure. One bud has an S&S 124", myself and a couple others have the S&S 111" and 2 others have EVOs with cam and exhausts. None of us use the choke. When cold first start of the day, 2 throttle squirts and start. Warm or hot starts, no throttle, just push the starter button.
Give it a shot and see what happens.
