Default stock exhaust compatability?

I've got a 1990 FXSTS that I just picked up. This bike has 1 3/4" drag pipes with no baffles, which are way too loud for me. I leave home pretty early and I don't feel like waking up half the neighborhood. I got some baffles which made a little difference, but they're still too loud. So, now I'm looking at putting some stock pipes on. Problem is that finding stock pipes for a 25 year old bike is difficult. Ebay has tons of stock softail exhaust parts but it's difficult to find parts specifically from a 87-90 softail. How compatible are OEM exhaust parts from other years? I don't mind having to get creative with the mounting options. I just don't want to have to do some major fabrication to make something fit. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

That's what I'm talking about! Thanks man. You think those would work on a 1990 softail? The 1990 models had that crossover pipe. Would that even matter?

Shouldn't matter. Like TV said, most pipes are compatible up into the Twinkies.

I have D&D fat cats from an 05 Road King on my 97 EG. Had to get a different mount at the trans but all is well

Definitely go for a set with a cross over pipe, it'll return some of your low to mid performance. I had a similar problem and went back to stock pipes a while ago. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the low down performance.

Yup, the heads and ports have not move so except for working out brackets there's basically no problems.

Just thinking out loud here, but what if I bolted some OEM mufflers to the drag pipes. How close to a stock exhaust would that be?

I'm probably just going to get a whole OEM exhaust system off ebay, but was just wondering about other options.
