I know this is old thread but any shared knowledge on using the Cam Position Sensor

Manufacturer Part Number: MC-SPA-3

instead of the way more expensive

Harley Camshaft Position Sensor Vas FLT 32448-95a

Were talking $47 apposed to $229
They are both hall effect both 3 wire, but the Vas has the 80 degree angle Vehicle Attitude Sensor bike kill built in. I'm not worried about the vas function.

That would be a Standard Motor Product. They make them for the earlier bikes as well. SPA1 and 2. The only difference is the connector pins... I like the idea of a kill switch for when the bike goes down but to put in with the CPS was pretty stupid.... I use the SMP in all my bikes...

Any idea if the MC-SPA-3 non VAS plate sensor will work in the '98 fuel injected evo?

Yes it will but you cannot use the slots to mount the sensor, that allow you to adjust the timing.. there are 2 fixed holes for the mount because the rotor cup for the fuel injected bikes are different than carbureted...

I just bought a cam position sensor from Ronnie's HD online for $166. I've dumped my bike over so I wanted the bank sensor.

I know this is an old thread, but a new issue for me. Since these posts it looks like HD no longer offers the 32448-95b cam position / lean angle sensor. Mine is working, but has oozed out the tan goo. I want to replace it for fear it will strand me some day. Virtually all aftermarket replacements (lean angle feature or not) seem to be for carbureted bikes only. I've found nothing in terms of replacement sensors or ignition systems that are compatible with my bike. Stopping by my HD dealer today but thought I'd check in here as well. What is the difference with the FI models? The part number currently in the bike seems compatible with the aftermarket assemblies but then there's the no efi disclaimer on everything I find.

Go with mc SPA3, and don't worry about the lean too far over, kill switch.

As for carbed, or FI bikes, same sensor, but!!!!!!

On the MM FI bike, it uses a different pick up cup for the sensor, you mount the sensor wires down, and use the round holes for the mounting bolts.
The ecm will self adjust for the correct timing.

.

On carb bike, before you remove the old sensor, mark/scribe the V slot on the sensor plate to nose cone case, since you mount the sensor via the slots isntead, and need to time it the same to the old sensor rotation mounted V point

Forget to mark the V, going to be on the other side of the bike with timing light (getting sprayed with oil as the motor is running, to get the timing mark via timing light, to center in the timing access plug channel for the correct rotation sensor mounted postion in the nose cone case.

Note, they do make the see through plastic plugs you can use to not get oil sprayed out when timing the sensor, but pretty much is useless, since inside of get sprayed with oil, and dam near impossable to see the crack mark via timing light instead.
