Default 98' Ultra Classic Voulume Control Question.

The other day I was on my 98' Ultra Classic and as I was adjusting the volume on the handlebars the volume control **** popped off.

So I order a new little control **** from the dealer. I replace the **** & find out that the volume control will not work at all. The bass, treble, etc will adjust.

The volume is dead.

Is this a easy fix as to just replace the volume control on the housing or is it just easier to add a aftermarket radio?

I really like keeping this bike stock & clean and something just tells me that replacing this volume control ,let alone finding on will be a bigger PITA than just swapping with a aftermarket modern radio & just have no handle bar controls...

So question is....how hard is replacing the volume switch on a 98' Ultra Classic with the factory HD radio ?

Why did they not make these with volume controls on the unit as with all other radios.....

If it is just the switch then just replace the switch as BV said. There are variables to the volume control, one is connected to the speed you're traveling.
There is a simple radio to install it is made by Jensen but it is super expensive at $495. It is one of the few plug n play items out there for our bikes. Too rich for my blood.
Good luck,
Tom

Mine was doing that and it was just gummed up with dirt and junk, cleaned it up and it worked fine.

Thanks guys.
I just cant figure how to get it off there to remove & or clean this switch.

Looks like you just take the grip and left controls off and it should just come right out?

Thanks again

Yeah...let me tell yeah that. I have arthritis and I tried, I just cant get that control apart....

So, I did the easy on this...& IMO it may even sound better than then 98' stock head unit. I purchased a nice new head unit with USB, true I-Pod input etc....& the aftermarket radio kit adapter so it fills that gap correctly & it comes with a power harness so that I maintain the ignition on/off controls for the radio.

I do have an amp in the back trunk that I hooked up to the stock unit for the past 2 years and all four speakers are aftermarket and sounded good...just not crisp.Even with the amp speakers & the I Pod . I suppose I am going from analog to true digital now.

Well, the sacrifice with my budget & electrical/wiring skills is losing the handle bar controls. I never use the CB or the weather radio....

I will have to post a pick when this is installed...just waiting on the mounting kit.

Thanks for the help troubleshooting this issue.

Aswc-1?
Nice kit if that is it. Pay attention to the pink wire. Easy peasey.
