Hi, I was changing the cam in my 99 fatboy an when the nose cone came off the cam came out BEFORE i could rotate the motor an line up the timing dots. I can not see a timing line/dot/mark on the crank! I thought I saw one, put it together an it won't run. runs a little then massive backfire. I know my eyes aren't what they used to be but I even had a magnifying glass looking that crank over. any pointers appreciated!!!

 

The "mark is not on the crank but on the pinion gear itself. Look for an engraved line BETWEEN two teeth. Line that mark up with a similar engraved line on the cam. There will be a dot on the cam at the 8:00 position. That dot lines up with the mark on the breather gear.

 

 

You have to look carefully for the mark on the pinion gear. Might help to spray some brake cleaner on it and get all the oil off.

 

I thought I found that mark but I guess I didn't

 

You have to line up both marks at the same time.
The one on the breather and the one on your pinion gear with the marks on the cam.

 

The nut can make it tough to see. Gotta work at it

I thought I had it lined up.....hardest part of doing it again is those stupid push rods....takes sooooo many turns to extend them! should have sprung for quickies.
