Default Brake fluid mess up

I messed up! I bought a set of chrome controls (drag) part number 0610-0532

I thought my old master said dot 4 but it really said dot 5, So i installed the new master (drag part) and the cover on it said to use dot 4. which i filled with dot 4. I only took the line off the old master and attached it to the new and filled it up.

So i'm sure there is no dot 4 down to the calipers. Can I just take the master off and clean it and flush the lines to the calipers with 5 by unhooking them. What concerns me is the new master says dot 4 , can 5 be used in it?

You need to flush thru completely with a couple bottles of 5..Just my opinion.

I've heard denatured alcohol works well as a flush when going from 4 to 5.

Seriously. Flush it, run 4. Cheaper and you will never realize the benefits of 5 on your Harley, that's why they went back to 4.

Sure, because DOT 4 is a much better paint remover than 5.

Why they went to DOT 4 across the line of bikes was because some got ABS a few years ago and it requires DOT 4 since ABS was designed around the automotive system and DOT 4 is used.

DOT 4 sucks big time in the front master cylinder when the bars are over the tank if a problem in the system should occur.

There is a difference in the rubber in the two system and if you got a DOT 4 master, you should get the proper one.

As long as you are the only person who services the bike.

I`ve been using DOT 4 in my `89 Softail for at least 20 years.
