Sounds like Max is due a fresh set of rubber! Before I answer the question:

While Mrs B and I were crossing Germany recently on Hyacinth we whizzed along for a while at quite a lick. Later in the same trip we got a drenching all day and arrived for a one night stay at a gasthof. Our touring suits were soaked on the outside, so we persuaded the hausfrau to put them in her drier, so we could put on dry clothes in the morning. I forgot until she returned the basket with our gear in that I had put our satnav in a pocket, while collecting our gear from the bike (it was still tipping down with rain). Poor TomTom got knocked about a lot in the drier and wouldn't wake up for a while. A friend was messing around with it when it finally recovered itself and browsed through it, pointed out that we had managed 98mph at some time that day.

So as best I recall that is the fastest I've ridden mine, 2-up and loaded to the gunnels. Next time we travel on an autobahn we have a date with a genuine ton!

Some might think this is hog wash, but it's truth...

That's the reason i went with Metzler Z rated. On the street I have brought it up to 137 with 1100 rpm to go on the tach. On the dyno it pulled 169 mph. 6 spd.

For true high speed stuff, I recall a trip I took nearly 15 years ago that took me across Wyoming. I was on my Suzuki DL1000. That thing was FAST! On those remote high desert roads, I spent a solid hour well over 100MPH (indicated, which is probably about 5% faster than actual) with the occasional burst up to 120+. In all of that, the bike was relaxed and perfectly stable.

Fun stuff, right there. But all the same, I'm more than pleased to plod along on my dowdy old Evos these days.

I can and have cruised at 80. I have had the old FLHTC up over 90 but, it's really screaming. With the old butterfly carb 80 would have been a challenge. The S&S gave me a lot more top end. BTW, these old EGs are no fun at high speeds. My old Valkyrie was smooth at 120 and asking for more.

I've done that once in a car. Must have been real exhilarating on a bike. Sweet........

When I went to look at the 97' RK that I eventually bought, the old man told me she was happiest at 55-60 mph. At first I thought, problems? He was more than happy agreeing to a test ride. It didn't take long to figure out he was happy at that pace. The King ran like a freight train easily reaching 80 mph. I too am content just puttin along.

My Suzuki went 140 mph in the 1/4 mile, 180s top end, my Harley may do 100, if not, close to it, I don't miss the Suzuki

110 (speedo) with me alone on it.
100 (speedo) with me and the wife on it.

Way too fast and I didn't stay in the triple digits for long. The image of me (and the wife) being picked up off the highway with a squeegee and fire hose relaxed my right hand's grip...

Comfortable highway speed it 70-80. Most of the time I'm at 65-70, if the traffic permits. Anything above 80 takes too much 'attention'.

Those of you who don't currently use them will find that ear plugs transform comfort at speed or on long trips. Best tuning aid known to mankind!

I could, and did, bury the 120 MPH speedo on my '88 FXR a few times, but it wasn't stock.
