Default Recovering the seat vs replacing

I noticed the seat is starting to rip from age. I was debating to see if I can find a local shop that can reupholster the leather on the seat or just replace. This is something I want to do eventually maybe not now but eventually. I was trying to see which is more cost effective so I know what to save for it.

I had mine recovered in 1989. I need to do it again. I'll do it myself this time. Upholstery work is not difficult, just a bit time consuming, especially with a hand crank Singer from your grandmother.

Recovering is cheaper than a new seat.

I recently went through the same decision process. Ended up ordering a new Corbin. The price was a fair amount less than my local shop wanted to do a recover.

Do some shopping around.

With that 98 you can go deep into years and get a used top shelf seat for $250-$300 like a Corbin. Don't use Mean City, they butchered my Corbin seat that was too embarassing too use.

If your seat is original take a close look at the base. At only ten years old or so my original seat base was showing signs of breaking up, so I bought new, a Corbin. The base of the stock seat was quite flimsy to my eyes, while the Corbin is built like a tank and weighs a lot more. It is also much more comfortable.

Joe look around. There are a lot of gently used seats out there that will fit your bike. I found an excellent shape Corbin 2-up for $80.00. Check out local Indy parts and Craigslist. These will be a lot cheaper than a recover or new.
