Default Starters -Solenoid End Cover Button

I'm looking at getting a starter button that goes on the Solenoid. J&P Cycles has two types made by "Spyke Starters" that look like they'll fit my bike. The website says that both will fit my bike (1990 FXSTS) but under the descriptions, one is specifically for 1.0W, 2.0W, 2.4W, and 2.6W starters. The other one is specifically for 1.6W and 1.8W starters. How do I figure out what starter is on my bike? Thanks.

Do you have a stock starter?

I just matched up the solenoid housing on the one I bought.

Are you having problems with starting your bike???

I was having problems with starting my 96 Ultra Classic, I was at the point were I was afraid to ride anywhere were I would have to shut off the bike, afraid it would not start, the dreaded click. I did the relay mod, and no problems since.

J&P is a good outfit but if you have a local shop close ck with them.
I've see those in a good many places.
That way you can match it up easy enough.

The bike has the stock starter. Just wanted something as a back up. Never fails to start, but on cold starts, I hit the starter, it "hesitates" for a second before turning over. If I turn it off right away and try to start again, the starter works instantly. Every now and then on a cold start, it will click and then start. I've done the relay mod, and it hasn't "clicked" since, but I still have the hesitation on cold starts. I've checked the battery, so I'm pretty sure that's not it.

The bike has never left me stranded, but I guess I'm just paranoid.

Get a set of heavy duty battery cables such as Sumax.

A while back I upgraded the battery cables and changed to a lithium ion battery at the same time. The battery was expensive but am really happy with the results.

You can also reduce your electrical load by changing all the lights to LED. This makes more power available to the starter, mainly because the LED headlight draws so much less than the regular headlight.

I did the LED upgrades and happy with them as well.
