Default Street Glide wheels on a 98 Road King?

I know the front will fit with some work. What about the rear? Would that be an axle/spacer mod too or is there more?

The axles are a different size. It is more than "some work".

If you have the big thick iron rear rotor, it isn't a simple mod IMHO. The SG came out some time later, using the later style smaller rotor and caliper. I don't have an SG rear, but I do have a wheel and brake from that later era, on my 1990 bike, which I achieved by swapping the swingarm, brake etc.

This I know. My question pertains to other issues involved with the swap, mainly if the wheel is wider due to the buffer between the sprocket and hub, which it appears to be judging from Mr Brown's post. Unless there is another reason for swapping the swing arm out.

I've been doing all the work on my Harleys since '85, save for porting and bottom end work. More than "some work" isn't an issue for me. I enjoy the challenge, honestly. For me that's what Harley is about. Any RUB can buy bol-ons and pay someone to do it.

Thanks for the replies gents!

Wink

Here's my thread on my own conversion, from a while ago, which may help. There is a link in it to a follow-on thread.

Cush drive rear wheels wont fit, you need a '07 and earlier SG or RG wheel.

Look at 2000-01 touring models which has the same axle and swingarm as yours and sealed wheel bearings,
the bearings, middle and outer spacers should work in the SG wheel.
You could bore the ID of your pulley and use it, or get the correct one.
not sure about your brake caliper, if you could find a '00-'01 caliper, it would be a nice upgrade.

The 2008 Streetglide had a bolt on cush drive system, 09 up rears are wider and the cush drive is cast into the wheel. I removed the 66 tooth cush drive hub and replaced it with a 68 tooth sportster pulley, 08's came with a very tall 32/66 final drive.

If you are concerned about the different axle sizes, i found a machine shop in New Hampshire that has machined adapters. Found them while looking for compression releases...

Motorway Engineering. Manchester New Hampshire....here is their link.
