Default My $130 front brake upgrade

bracket $44
caliper rebuilt kit 15
longer brake line 53
new pads 16

I have a 99 Fatboy an wasn't a big fan of the single piston front caliper. I hadn't had a problem stopping but haven't had to panic stop either. I had a pair of 4 piston calipers off the front of an 05 Electra glide I had laying around so this made sense to do. I rebuild the caliper since it had dot 4 in it an turns out it was a little grungy. Got the mounting bracket off Amazon, some decent pads an the required longer brake line off eBay. Stops much better now.

I thought about doing the Wilwood front caliper for around $215, might not have needed the longer brake line with it, but I know it will be no problem finding pads everywhere for this one. I didn't add in the $10 for a bottle of dot 5 brake fluid since the old fluid was yellow an nasty an in need of change anyway. Gonna have to do the fluid for the rear next.

The mini vac was VERY handy for this job. Don't know if I could have filled the empty brake caliper an line without it, plus I was doing this alone.

Nice job looks like it belongs. Better to do an upgrade that makes stopping safer than just some shinny bling. You didn't list your time, which you saved even more doing it yourself.

Think. Changing the lower leg is a bit cheaper and easier if you ever do another. Plus no bracket and caliper mounts up close with stock brake line. Bet u notice the difference with the front brake. Lol

I thought about the lower legs but didn't want to deal with diff axle sizes, guess I could have gotten a Right with caliper mounts an run 2 of the evo style calipers.

Nope only one leg and no axle change. When it's single side brake.3/4 ....1 inch and 25 mm all the same on left side except brake mount

u just need one leg . The left side the axle is the same . Than u can run brembo or the older one like you have. It's one of the best braking upgrades u can do. Bet u were surprised the first time u used em.... Lol

When I did mine I had to get a bigger master cylinder, adapter brackets so that I could run my fender on the bagger lower legs, different speedo sensor so that it had the right spacer, new spacers for the right side, bagger lower legs, a caliper for the right side, new brake lines, and I machined the bagger wheel so that it would fit in there with a rotor on both sides.

A bit more than just a different right lower leg and right caliper
