Default Ultima 113 for my bagger

I am still tugged at when it comes to the pull to add more power. I have come across a really good deal. Ultima 113 with Harley B lifters and jims rockers stock cams. Mikuni 45 with ignition in the nose cone. The motor has 12k and the guy put his 80 back in......
My hesitation why is he selling
Why would he put the 80 back in
I know he lost a lifter and 2 rocker arms and ate 1 starter. He has a dyno showing 114hp and 126tq.
I looked back at all of his postings were he is complaining about the motor noise ( when the lifter was going) and we're it left him stranded ( rocker arm)
But these have been replaced.... it's a great price only 2k. But my little 80 runs pretty good uses no oil and has no issues but it has unknown miles and the odometer reads 72k now.

It would be nice to have the power
It would be a low mileage upgrade
I would need a new clutch
I would prob get a 6spd gear set.
What do ya think

Before you buy you really should check with 1997bagger about his Ultima.
He said at one point that if he had it to do over he would buy an S&S motor because of all the failures he had with the Ultima.

Personally after reading his experience with it I wouldn't install one on my bike no matter what the price!!!

I think the guy that knows this motor better than anyone decided that his stocker was a better option.

The phrase "I wouldn't f*ck her with your dick" comes to mind.

I have an S&S 113" motor as does one of the club brothers and he actually told me he was considering going back to the 80"er. Gas mileage mainly. I laughed and he did too, but was sort of considering it. I told him the smiles are worth every penny..

Went this route of a good price low hour 127" took it apart for head work and the bore was toast. Bored the cylinders, port work done and good for 3/4 of the season with a rapping sound on the front cylinder, pulled the engine and front rod crank bearing had excessive side play on the top side of the flywheel, installed a flywheel plus needing another rebore, slight metal from the crank bearing wear scarred the cylinders.

Ran well for another 1/4 season and dropped a valve seat idling in the driveway, called Ultima with the help from John Sachs and Ultima sent me 2 new heads and enough parts to put back together which was noble of them, the engine has been dependable except for the slight valve train clack that wasn't present before and can't get it out, the new heads may have stronger springs loading the lifters causing the clack.

Even tho the now 130" is a blast that has been dependable, the cheap engine turned out to be not a cheap motor, add $180 bore each time, $185 pistons each time, $230 oil pump, $230 lifters, $625 flywheel, $300 in tooling to disassemble and assemble the engine.

Sachs preaches a 113" is the best all around engine and gets great performance out of them, I would buy a brand new one and most likely would be a S&S, although it is appreciated what Mike Garrison at Ultima did for me, Ultima has had some growing pains like failed rockers and lifters like the engine you are looking at and that is a older engine plus Sachs mentioned the number 1 rod wear has surfaced before. Have the 89" with a S&S 4 5/8 rotating assembly, has been bullet proof, S&S flywheel has made a believer out of me.

He's obviously "thrown in the towel" on that motor. I'll bet he'd never even consider another Ultima. A motor is the last component that I would go cheap on. Especially a high performance motor. Their low prices on big engines can be tempting to many, but there's way too many horror stories to ignore.

When a motor leaves you stranded it does not leave a good taste in your mouth. Sticks there for a while. I'm saving for an S&S myself.

If I were to have bought it I would have taken it to a local builder to disassemble and Re assemble making sure it was perfect.
