Default Now THIS is interesting

Could this gooey, drippy stuff that came out of my ignition be causing my '93 FLSTC to idle poorly and run a little rough??? What the hell would cause an ignition to melt like that? The Dyna S on my Shovelhead never did that! I reckon I'll be needing a new iggy. Any recommendations?

Ultima... its a rebadged Dynatek but way less expensive (if you get the full kit with the coil - toss the coil as they are rubbish)

That yellow goo is normal with age. A lot of them melt after xx amount of years, the yellow ones do that, and the later black ones don't seem to melt like that.

I think a replacement like the one you have (but with the black that don't melt) can be picked up on fleabay for about 40 bucks, or like others have mentioned the ultima 53-644 for about 120 bucks.

The nice thing about the ultima is you have a few options on different advance curves, rpm limits, dual fire or single fire (with the correct coil(s). I think you can even program it with the correct software and connector. YD

yes, yes and yes..... Oh I thought you said D2ki.....

Actually I have programmed a great advance curve. Today got to 90*, stop and go traffic on the LIE (wicked hot) my oil temp was higher than normal at 180* and the ignition was solid.... Love the D2ki...... period.... remember you get whta you pay 4.....

I just replaced my cam position sensor module for the same reason. I had a spare points conversion kit sitting on the shelf so I yanked the electronic ignition and converted it to points.

Does my '93 have a cam position sensor? If so, where is it?

Yes, it's under that little round cover that is held in with 2 screws or possible 2 rivets if it's original, down on the right side of the motor. it's called the cam chest cover. You should see a coated wire harness going in it from the bottom...
