Default MPG expected from an EVO

Hey I am currently getting 32 MPG on my 97 FXDWG. Is that normal?

It is if you're full throttle every opportunity you get...

That is shocking to hear. I am very easy on the bike. It has the stage 1 adjustments. Tires are good and at the correct pressure.

For comparison, I average 'around' 40 mpg on my FLHS. Bigger (heavier) bike, big **** windshield, etc. EV27 cam, SuperTrapp slipons (12 disks), SE air cleaner, Dyna 2000 ignition, and a mild head porting.

If I baby it, I can get close to 50, but that's not the norm. Usually when on a road trip with mainly interstate speeds, I will stop every 160 miles and it takes 4 gallons. Give or take a bit.

I think you're on the low (really low) end of mpg.

That sounds low. I would not be surprised at 42-45 on an average.

What pipes? What intake? How long since you checked the plugs? How are they? Post a photo or two of the electrodes. Any popping, backfiring, coughing, hesitation, missing? Under what conditions?

What are the specs on the carb. Stage one has a very specific meaning but the actual application of that depends on the bike, who did it, and how good of a mechanic they are. What jets are installed? Any shims or special carb needles? Have you tried any of the leak tests (propane or incense)? Any other mods?

Even how you check mileage could cause variations.

I get 40 or so at 75-85mph. Better when I'm forced to ride slower.

Stock motor or modified a bit?
Head work and a bump in compression made mine get about that gas mileage.
