Been across Lake Champlain by ferry more times than I can remember. No provisions for tie downs on that line as far as I recall.
Most of the time it's not a worry. One time it was pretty rough, though, and I remember straddling the bike the whole time to keep it from going over. Fortunately it was the short ferry from Grand Isle to Plattsburgh, so it was just a 15 minute ride.

I enjoy my EVO too. Hard to explain to my friends who ride Japanese sport and adventure bikes. A completely different experience.
I have a Kawasaki Versys 650 to and a couple dual sport bikes. I like them all. All very different experiences.
But it is funny how HD evokes such powerful reactions from people, either for or against. I do not understand it. Just a motorcycle that provide a certain experience some like some do not. No big deal. But some people get so worked up about it. It is interesting.
