3 more then one reason exist for all the combos to have flat tops - no one keeping special parts for them selves BTW

4 the 96'' evo engine is a good power unit cam choices will set it apart and its very streetable with 9 to 1 == you cant buy the fuel and your block wont take the beating

5 did you find the end of reliability in a 80 inch the next one will be even shorter in life
All good points john, Didn't want to max, just want to match the parts for optimal performance of what is available.. More like if your gonna do it, do it right.....That's all.

1) I think I paid for it 3 times over....
2) No cash pit
3) becoming pretty obvious
4) so the W6H is the right choice
5) Unfortunately, yes I did find the end of reliability. The hard way...........

I understand your point but once you have the piston (whichever one you use) at 0 deck height the only way to increase combustion is to take some meat off the heads.

Personally I wouldn't want to shave the heads either.

IMO the farther up you build that motor the more unreliable it becomes.
You have to decide what you want more power or reliability.

I'm running the 96" I built with a Woods W6HE cam in it. A little over 200 on the ccp numbers cold. S&S heads and pistons. Runs awesome with a 2:1 pipe on it.

Weigh that cost vs the cost and reliability of a 96" S&S complete engine.

Inspirational there Griz, I Will be content with 9.8-9.9 and a ccp of roughly 185-188. I think it will increase the reliability....
Curious, Do you have a dyno sheet on that build?

Prot, there's a $2500 difference between New and build it...

No dyno stuff for me. I have an A/F meter on it and dialing it in a bit with the new pipe on it.

Where were you off on? Power side on A/F ratio or mileage side?

How did the dyno run show it being off? A/F meter on it or just power band changes?

Power side. I thought i had a happy medium. The low end was lean and the top end was heavy. I took out the thunder jet. All it did was complicate the tune. Pre-dyno was .0295/70 with a .0303 in the thunder jet. After dyno .031/70. Made great power to 5k. The cam grind that i had Bob Wood make for me would not do anything over 5k, flat lined @ 95/86. But i must say the torque spooled up very quickly...hence sheared crank pin....

I'm running a 44mm CV on mine. 48/220 on jets with a shim under the needle.75-80 in 6th running about 2800 I'm at 12.8-13.4 pretty consistently. 75 in 5th is closer to 14.2 steadily. Supertrapp pipe on it sounds good too.

Bobby has been really helpful with me on tuning the carb for it. Love the cam from him myself.
