On my 1996 Ultra Classic, the left turn signal is not working but the right one is working. I checked the bulbs and they are both ok, I haven't checked the indicator bulb in the dash yet. Does this bike use 2 flashers, what to look for?

 

There is a single flasher module, about the size of a pack of cigarettes which appears to be on or around your top forks tree. It is #68540-96 and if similar to my earlier bike should provide you with normal flashers in both directions, plus all four together. If you don't have one, now is the time to buy a factory service manual!

 

I have a manual, but having flashers in one direction and not the other was puzzling me, as in the one module controlling both. If the left indicator bulb in the dash is blown, will it stop the signal from working for that direction?

 

It's a long time ago now, but my module did strange things as well. As with most electrical problems, do all the mechanical stuff first. In other words follow wires, test continuity, check there is no wiring damage. Have you done anything with your handlebars recently? Numerous problems arise from trapping a wire while disturbing the controls. There's lots so do before you can isolate the module as the culprit!

 

On my 94, it did just that. Mine is under the speedo bolted to top of the backbone.
And yes, one module does it all.

 

I will be working on it this weekend, will pull the front off the fairing to check/replace the indicator bulb, will check the wiring.

 

Check the grounds to the sockets on the non working side. Jumper wires with alligator clips are your best friend.

 

I'm not sure what year it was that they switched from flashers to modules, but my 94 FXSTC had a module that went bad. I replaced it with a turn signal module from Badlands (couldn't find a cheap OEM module) It worked fine with no problems, and the instructions were easy to understand. My 1990 FXSTS doesn't have a turn signal module, just a normal flasher relay.

 

Check for power at the left switch and see if it's sending 12v signal to the turn signal module. If so replace the module. It's also your flasher... Part#68570-94b

 

Thanks, I will start taking it apart tonight, I will be pulling the tank also, so I will be able to get to the wiring. I will be installing the Rocker Locker kit this week end also.
