1998 FLHRCI fuel line check valves
Hey Guys. Been lurking. 1st post. I have removed the fuel tank on my 1998 F.I. Road King. When I removed the fuel lines the check valves came out with the fittings in the aftermarket fuel lines. Now I can't remember which check valve goes where. One appears to be straight thru with a ball in it. The other is a little fancier. Can anyone help me out here? Also is there a trick to installing the check valves? Do they screw in with the fuel line fitting?
Thanks Much,
Murph

I don't know if this will help. You should pickup the HD service manual for your bike.
The P/N for the manual should be 99483-98

The other valve is IN #61408-95a towards rear.
I have NOT had to remove the check valves.
I believe the return/IN/rear has a ball in it.
The ball keeps fuel from dripping back towards motor from tank.
OUT is towards front of tank.
Return/IN towards rear of tank.
The valve has a slot and i read a long time ago about someone using a home made piece of metal to make a large flat blade square/rectangle.
They caught the slots with the square and turned square slowly with a pair of pliers or similar while being careful to not nick/scratch threads..
I would think a good piece of plastic rectangle/square would be safer to avoid thread damage..at least at the start.
Be very careful to not cross thread the valves or fuel lines as they are easy to bend threads.
Probably a good idea to get a nail with a large head and trace the threads with the nail head from inside tank hole to outside to make sure threads are good before starting the check valves and fuel lines.
That way you pull any tiny problem out.
Valves are installed first and then the fuel lines.
Make sure the O-ring on valves are perfect and lube O-ring before installation.
Check and lube o-rings a on lines too.
You could probably double check placement of valves by blowing into them..air flow should go one way as you hold them.
Let us know how it goes.
Again, be very careful to not cross thread and clean the threads before installing anything.

I went to my manual #99483-98 and section 9 fuel injection at 9-100 has a large figure.
Figure 9-90 shows both check valves.
It shows the slot on the bottom of both check valves.
The supply has the ball opposite side of the slot.
The return has the ball closest to slot.
They BOTH have a ball in it.
That page also explains removal and installation.
It list tool HD-41538...the tool is nothing difficult..kinda sorta like a long 3/8" drag link socket...iool picture is on page 9-20
The physics of the valve should Restrict air when blown from slotted end of the out valve.
The physics of the valve should ALLOW air when blown from slotted end of the return valve.
