1986 tourglide wiring
I recently purchased a 1986 fltc. It looks good but has some covered up issues. The main issue isn't the fault of the bike, it's the fault of the previous owner and their love for crimp connectors and lack of wiring knowledge. I started to pull the motor off as it's cold here now and want to freshen the motor up and paint the frame so I'll be ready to ride this spring. Once I got into the fairing for removal I quickly realized the wiring had been hacked up. So now I am looking for diagram so I can make up a new harness with things like solder and heatshrink tubing.

a little messy indeed.
but if you look at any OEM wiring harness on any vehicle- you will see that it is all crimp connectors.
soldered joints break due to vibration- usually right where the tinning ends the wire strands will flex and break one by one.
the shrink will help to hide the breaks and contribute to a double handful of intermittent problems, as the strands break resistance will build and fuses may blow here and there due to the extra load.
I found out the hard way a long time ago.

This may be an option, look through this thread, he converted to a later model wiring harness.
You may pick up on some other ideas using later model stock parts on your build.

You can try here for a wiring diagram. It takes a while to download. If you use Google Chrome, then by using the print button, you can save it as a PDF file.

Mid 80's wiring harnesses weren't that great when they were new...after 30 years they are not worth trying to fix.
My method for repairing these old wiring harnesses is simple...

One I installed:
