Ya pump it back up and into the fork. Big syringe with some type of a rubber end put on it. Seals the hole and forces the oil in

Have to be one hell of a big syringe to inject 10+ oz!!!
How do you put the plug in when you take the syringe out of the hole???
As soon as you take the syringe off the hole it will start draining.
Not fast I grant you but it will drain.

A handy tool otherwise known as a thumb, then have the drain plug handy, replace the thumb with the plug. As long as you don't the quickness of a sloth, the fluid loss is negligible.

I filled a syringe, used it to fill the forks through the drain hole and hurried to get the plug in before loosing more than a few drops.

Thanks.
That way sounds like a PITA to me but then I don't have all that stuff on top of my forks like the baggers.

On the other hand changing the engine and tranny oil on my softail is way harder to do than on a bagger so I guess you win some and lose others.

It's all part of the HD plan to frustrate you when you do your own work instead of always relying on them!

Fork mantanance is one of the most neglected systems on a motorcycle. Change your oil biannually and your seals/bushings with last a lot longer.
The best fork oil I've found is Shell Tellus oil #46.

That is how I do it on my '96 ... hook the mighty vac to the handlebar valve with the core removed and pump away ... I have to remember to put the plug in the slider not being filled so the other draws the fluid ... I have enough suction that I have a few seconds after removing the fill hose to get the plug in before starting to loose a little oil
