A large block of text is very hard to follow.
If you use paragraphs then it will be much easier to follow.

This is the part I misread because I was halfway asleep.

Sorry.

When I change mine I drain the oil tank an refill it, remove the oil filter then run the motor until clean oil comes out then add the filter an top the tank.

Sounds messy.

That will work on an EVO since it filters going back to the sump from the return side of the oil pump.

A TC filters first on the way to the engine parts.

I do the same. And it's not messy because I have a Oil cooler and I disconnect one of the hoses and put it to the drain pan.... Works great.... This way I get it all...

If it makes you feel better, you can do that, but it's not necessary. I've never done this and my motor likely has more miles on it than most.

Us old farts on shovels call that a "4 quart oil change" as you remove as much as possible from the system. Shovels had that long return line to the top of the tank you just pulled and aimed at the drain pan. Run till it's clean then hook it back up and top it off.

Hey Lang, you're right, you can do this, on a 99 Fatboy Evo, & get all the dirty oil out! But, the 2000 & up Twin Cam Softails, would only purge from the oil tank to the oil filter! Not any dirty oil from the motor sump, back to the oil tank! You could take the return line off the oil tank, & use a cheap filter, run bike till oil runs clear at end of return line, then kill motor, take off cheap oil filter, & put a Great filter on, top off! Now your bike has a Belly full of clean fresh oil! Or you can use a Scavenger, No Mess & No extra filters!

PS, I have a 99 FXSTC, since New, use my Evo Scavenger every Fall! Never put a H-D away for the winter, with a Belly full of dirty acidic oil, think like a Boat Marina!
