Did Malcolm or someone else change out the cam? Looks like a smooth replacement cam cover.
This thing does run like a hairy dog until she is hot though, one of the roughest V-twins I've come across in a long time. Pulls great, and cruises smooth, just very rough on idle.

Great bike, Ozzie,.....mine's an '87,....#284 of 800,.....yours is the first I've seen with the same paint scheme on the tank.
I doubt Liz Taylor ever rode on the back of mine, but she probably did on yours....
