I have a 99 night train I recently purchased with a two inch lowering kit installed. Since purchase I have noticed the rear suspension has a loud sqeak when the rear suspension is compressed. It takes very little movement to make the sqeak apparent. I compressed the rear suspension, and can feel vibration at the shock housings. It feels, and sounds like the springs are creating the noise inside the spring housings. I was afraid to spray the springs with penatrating oil in fear of degrading shock seals. Anyone encounter this before, and know a simple fix, or I am I doomed to replace the shocks.
A few years after I got it new, my 89 Softail rear shocks started having bad, loud, squawking coming out of them whenever they moved. Talk about looking silly while riding. I started spraying them with wd40 or whatever I had on hand and it quit. Must have lubed them up good, as I haven't had to do it for a number of years. No change in performance of the shocks that I can tell.
Thank's Campingout for the info. I finally came to the conclusion that the worst thing that could happen, Is I will have to replace the shocks. I started blasting them with penatrating oil. Deffinately worth a try.
Same thing here, shot some wd on them and they are fine now. You can get chrome replacement shocks on ebay for around $100. But for now a can of WD is a lot cheaper.
