Default Year and Mileage

Sorry if this has been done. Was wondering what model year you all have and the mileage on the bike, Mine's an 86 FXST with 76,000, The bike has never had to have work done to it other than the normal maint.oil, battery, tires. It still has the original drive belt. This bike hasn't cost me squat over the years. Is this normal or am I just lucky to have a good one?

TI woulsd have to say that is normal for most EVO's, at least the ones I know that have been taken care of. My 1991 FXRP had 6,000 miles on it when I bought it and had a little over 46,000 when I crashed it and I also put no money into it other than modifications.

However the one I have now, 1998 FXDS, I am going to have to change the poston rings this winter because it is burning about a quart of oil every 2,000 miles. I am assuming this is because the previous owner did not take care of it. I bought it with 11,000 miles back in Dec. '05 and now it has a little over 19,000 miles. THAT is abnormal for an EVO.

Bought mine March of 03, it had 6900 mile on it. Now has 29000 miles. Except for maintenance items had to replace the igniton at 22000. Went with the Daytona Twin Tech.

Rude Dog,
Not sure about your problem but thought I would mention this.I use to think my 98 wide glide was using oil although I never saw any smoke. It was blowing through the breather. I have found that if I fill it to the cold full mark when cold, I don't lose any. If I fill it to the hot full mark when hot I will lose oil through the breather and I can see it on my ignition cover under my air cleaner and on my battery box. I found the sweet spot on my dip stick.

I picked my '90 FLHS up this past June with 15.5K on it... and just before the incident at the MSF course, she had just gone over 16.1K. I'm still waiting to get her back from the dealer, but I still feel she's low on mileage, and has a lot to give still!

Sold it but I had a very early Evo,'84 model FXRS from 1983.
I rode it in for a fresh top end and cams at 100,000 miles while still my daily rider.
I sold it at 125,000 miles to a friend who later sold it at nearly 150,000 miles and still running great.
Best bike I ever owned!

Hey WideGlide, there is definitely smoke coming from the front cylinder. When I give her hard acceleration it will smoke like crazy. I have had that problem with my 1991, and like you said, I just had to find the sweet spot on the dip stick, it was about 3/8" below the full mark.

I am taking this in stride because it gives me some incentive to go with the .020" over size pistons. Now I just have to decide between Kieth Black or Wiseco. Decisions, decisions, decisions.....

Ditto. My 96 Wide Glide will do that same thing.

PS My 96 Wide Glide has just over 20,000 miles and nary a problem.

Mine's an '87 flhtc with just over 67,000 mi. I've only had it for about a yr and half, but the prev owner said he did top end/cam at 55,000.
I've had to replace timing sensor pick-up, battery, usual maint stuff. It's a strong motor, still a lot of life left in her. Think I'll keep 'er.

1984 FXRT, bought new in '85, ridden ever since. Extensively modified for touring (see it here: http://www.wildwestcycle.com/f_bigtank.html)

Swapped out original engine in 2003 for an S&S 107". I'd been trying to get too much power out of 80" to use for too long while touring (built motors: you can ride 'em hard or you can ride 'em long, but you can't ride 'em hard and long). I had to rebuild it from the crank up three times after 110,000. Finally used it up at 150K miles and put in the S&S.

Current mileage is 180,000, more or less. And I just bought a Road Glide for the long trips.
