goddamhellovamthrfcknpeaceofnogood etc etc etc... (oil....again...
So there I was.....
Drove the bike into the garage..... First ride of the year was splendid!!
15°C, sunny, no bugs between your teeth..... ....sigh.....
While enjoying a sigaret, I did a little admiring of my precious.... just to finish the wonderfull day....
Thats when it happened....
The two engine mounting bolts (front of engine, down inbetween the frame tubes) had a moist, oily feel to them....
[>:] [>:] [>:]
My heart missed a beat right there...
After some inspection I saw there was a trace of oil, comming from between left and right side of carter, behind the oilfilter.
(((see subject))) is what followed.
A crappy seal..... A-FREAKING_GAIN !!! [:@][:@]
I've changed the base-cylinder gaskets, top-cylindergaskets(twice!!) and intake gasket in the past....
And now I can take it all apart again?
Could this be due to bad break in (Bought it with 7000kilometres on it) or to bad quality of Factory seals or just the polution of the atmosphere?
I'm pretty sure it's not my fault cause I let her warm up ( Cyl-head warm to the touch) before driving of.
Ok,
If it ain't leakin, it ain't no Harley, (but i do prefer mine not to leak...)
Don'tthink it's harmfullto the engine...
Whats your PoV, What would you do?
If necessary, I'm planning to replace this gasket somewhere next winter.
Is there anything I should replace in there, While the engine is open?
Are factory gaskets any good or better take aftermarket?
80CI ECO, Crane cam, V&HBSL, K&N
Tnx for any replies,
God bless you

I've had good results with the metal base gaskets with the silicone bead on them. Put new rings in and a light hone on the jugs when you pull it off, or you can try the trick of dropping the piston down, removing the wrist pin clip, pushing out the wrist pin then putting it all back together without pulling the piston from the jug. I've never done it that way, but the local shop does.

insp.clouseau,
I dealt with that problem till i was sick of it, so I bought the Hayden oil fix for my 1990 80" evo. The hayden oil fix comes with two gaskeys and two brass ferrell hollow dowels. These fit into the return holes in the case and in the jugs. No more leaks for my bike. here is the web site. http://www.haydensm6.com/tof_single.htm you can order from this site or you can go to http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~partsortand order. About $26.00 US.

Just a theory but if it is only 12 degrees outside I would venture a guess that the cold itself could be a problem because the bike is not getting up to temp. so things are not expanding the way they are supposwed to when they get warm or hot.
That's my theory and I am sticking to it until some can disprove it.
Good luck in any event
